The Big 4 vs. Prestige
Why a generalist agent costs a motor carrier thousands of dollars a year.
Standard generalist agent
- Only quotes 3 to 4 basic carriers such as Progressive or Geico
- Slow turnaround on quotes and DOT filings
- Rate spikes 6 months into the policy term
- Generic call center support with no assigned specialist
- Limited grasp of DOT compliance defense, MCS-150 updates and CSA score protection
The Prestige advantage
- 100+ A-rated carrier underwriters plus exclusive underwriter markets
- 24-Hour underwriter quotes and same-day MCS-90 and DOT filings
- Locked-in, non-volatile rates reviewed ahead of every renewal
- Dedicated bilingual specialist who knows your operation
- DOT compliance defense, MCS-150 updates and CSA score protection
Truckers switching from generalist agents to Prestige save an average of $2,400 to $18,000 per fleet annually.
Coverage for every equipment class
Motor Truck Cargo, commercial auto liability, Physical Damage and Non-Trucking Liability placed around the equipment you actually run.
- Semi / 18-Wheelers

Straight Answers for Truckers
Most fleets of three or more power units pay between $9,000 and $16,000 per truck per year for a full program of commercial auto liability, motor truck cargo, and physical damage. Your radius, commodity, loss runs, driver MVRs, and years in authority move that number more than anything else. Because Prestige is independent, we market your file to hundreds of A rated carriers and bring back the range instead of a single quote.
Motor truck cargo covers the freight in your trailer while it is in your care, custody, and control. A typical limit is $100,000, with higher limits for high value commodities. It responds to collision, fire, theft, and load shift losses, subject to your policy wording and exclusions. Most brokers will not tender a load without proof of cargo coverage on your certificate.
A carrier underwrites the policy and pays the claim. An independent agency like Prestige represents you, not the carrier, and markets your operation to many carriers at once so you can compare terms. That means one application, several competing offers, and an advocate who stays on your file at renewal and during a claim.
If you haul freight under your own authority you almost always need both. Commercial auto liability covers bodily injury and property damage you cause to others and is federally required at $750,000 minimum, with $1,000,000 expected by most shippers. Cargo insurance covers the freight itself. Non trucking liability applies when you are off dispatch.
Start ninety days before renewal, clean up your MVRs and CSA scores, document your safety program, and let an independent agency market the file to multiple carriers before the incumbent sets your number. Fleets that treat renewal as a marketing event rather than a paperwork event consistently see smaller increases.
